Exploring the accessibility of sport stadia for people with disability: towards the development of a Stadium Accessibility Scale (SAS)

Purpose The aim of this paper is to synthesise existing literature on sports stadia, spectators with disabilities (SwD) and accessibility identify themes highlight the gaps in literature. This review subsequently develops two propositions that will enable research emerging area further develop. Design/methodology/approach was guided by questions: First, what does peer reviewed evidence tell us about SwD sporting stadia?; Second, how can information be used develop a Stadium Accessibility Scale (SAS)? authors conducted rapid across three databases identified 34 papers for synthesis. Findings synthesis revealed themes: focus legislative compliance, need enhance resources (both physical human) focusses moving beyond stadium experience. latter subdivided into streams – studies look at as social legacy major events seek understand whole journey SwD's must make attend sport events. Research limitations/implications study makes key recommendations. first encourage aligned HOPES framework (Paramio-Salcines et al. , 2016) explicitly recognises importance understanding broader approach customer second development validation reliable SAS.
